Rainy Day at Governor's Island

Wish I would have known about this place sooner. The ferry to Governor's Island is free (the ferry entrance is right next to the Staten Island Ferry), there is a free trolley once you are there, and you can have a picnic across from the Statue of Liberty. In a hammock or a red Adirondack chair. If you want to find a place to relax in NYC, take a lunch and hop on the ferry.

It threatened to rain on our way there, and then the sun came out when we arrived at the island. We picnicked near the old school house where there was a hammock and a giant wind chime under a tree (last two pics in this post). Magic. Thanks for the suggestion, Kenzie!
