Letter Press Class {Sycamore Street Press}

I think I'm in love. Letterpress has been something I've wanted to learn more about for a while now. Erin invited me to attend a 1-day class held by Eva and Kirk of Sycamore Street Press, who generously opened up their Heber studio to those of us who have always wanted to try. Eva and Kirk were incredibly patient and kind and helped each of the ten class members print 50 cards on a vintage letter press. I loved trying something new and being able to start and finish a project in only a few hours.

While we were waiting for our turn at the printing press, Eva taught us how to make custom envelope liners that are a perfect way to personalize a handmade gift. I don't think I've ever been so excited to mail Christmas cards.

Sycamore Street Press will be holding classes in the near future (Valentine's Day is going to be the next one), so keep an eye on Eva's blog for more information. I think I'll go to every class they offer- I'm not sure when I'll get to do this again, so I'm going to take full advantage. There's something truly incredible about creating something out of nothing- it's good for the soul.

Oh, and I may or may not have been obsessed with their studio space. You'll have to look at the pictures below to find out...

I love this candid Erin got of me looking at my first print- look how happy/proud I am!

Our paper scrap piles are perfect illustrations of our personalities... at the top is Erin's pile- organized, sorted, cut into useful shapes, and stacked nearly perfectly. At the bottom, my pathetic, tangled, unorganized, disorderly, hardly usable, scatterbrained mess. Just like me :) I'm one of those left-brained artsy types

Are you saying I am NOT a left-brained artsy type? :) I am talented because I can do both!

I'm glad you brought you camera so we could remember our fun/silly memories. Random elastic ball...
